How can we ensure effective teaching and the integrity of student learning in an era of everywhere, all-the-time, access to AI? This workshop focuses on a comprehensive set of choices that schools, leaders, and teachers can make to use AI tools in ways that support, rather than undermine, each student’s learning. Participants will learn:
Common misconceptions students have about AI, learning, and effort; and why it is important to address
them.
Practical strategies to deter cheating and support academic integrity in an era of everywhere AI.
How to craft policies and syllabi that intentionally align instructional practices, assessment design, and
classroom culture to emphasize learning, deter cheating, and support integrity – whether or not teachers
or students are using AI tools.
How to prompt AI tools in ways that ensure intentional teaching & learning.
Six skills and strategies to teach students to take ownership of their learning, including with AI tools.

Tony Frontier, PhD has worked as a classroom teacher, high school administrator, k-12 curriculum director, and university professor. He speaks, writes, and consults internationally with schools and districts to support effective teaching and learning. His most recent book, AI with Intention: Principles and Actions Steps for Teachers and School Leaders (May of 2025, ASCD/ISTE) has been endorsed by John Hattie as "the best book I have read to introduce all to optimize the power of AI."

WASCD will no longer be utilizing the MyQuickReg registration system as it will no longer be in operation after June 30, 2024. All WASCD events will now be set up in our new registration system, Neon One, starting on July 1, 2024.
We encourage all users to set up their Neon One account prior to July 1st for a smooth transition. Account creation only takes a few minutes and will help streamline the event registration process down the road.
