ASCD Wisconsin is now Wisconsin Teaching And Learning Leaders
It's very common for our students to come into our math classrooms with varying skills and knowledge. Adopting and using an aligned curriculum in math is a must. We also need to consider how we plan to leverage proven practices that help all students access grade-level skills and standards. This is achieved through scaffolding up to grade level, instead of modifying down to lower standards. Students grow more and have a better chance of reaching proficiency when they are allowed access to grade-level learning. In this workshop, we will look into the research, be introduced to various scaffolds that promote productive math struggle, and utilize an instructional planning process that helps give students more repetitions in grade-level math.
