Foundations of Numerical Reasoning in Grades K-5
Foundations of Numerical
Reasoning in Grades K-5
with Graham Fletcher
Intended Audience: Homeroom teachers, instructional coaches, and school district administrators.
This workshop is designed to empower educators with the tools and strategies necessary to foster strong numerical reasoning in students from Kindergarten through Grade 5. Numerical reasoning forms the foundation of all mathematical understanding, and in this full-day session, we will explore the development of critical math skills across grade levels.
Participants will engage with hands-on activities, strategy-based games, and visual models to deepen their understanding of how number sense, operations, and problem-solving skills progress through the elementary years. By understanding this progression, teachers will be better equipped to scaffold instruction in ways that meet students' developmental needs.
Workshop Goals:
1. Develop a deeper understanding of how numerical reasoning progresses from Kindergarten through 5th grade.
2. Explore methods to build strong foundations in number sense and mathematical fluency.
3. Introduce activities and games that enhance numerical reasoning skills in the classroom.
4. Provide teachers with tools to foster a student-centered, inquiry-based math environment.
5. Collaborate with peers to address common challenges and share best practices.
